Dreiland, the three border region of Switzerland, Germany, and France, offers visitors a wide range of attractions and recreation activities, including museums, sightseeing, bird-watching, wine-tasting, go-karting, and skiing. The most populated city in the region is Basel. The city offers plenty of opportunities for entertainment and sightseeing. Some of the most famous attractions in Basel are the Cathedral, Basel Zoo, the Tinguely Fountain, and the Pfalz (Palace). The Pfalz offers beautiful views over the old town and the Dreiländereck (Three Contries Corner). A sculpture in the port of Basel marks the meeting point of the three countries. But it's Basel Zoo which attracts most visitors in Basel. The zoo occupies 11 hectares and is home to about 6000 animals of 600 species from all around the world. Basel Zoo is the second most visited attraction in Switzerland after the Rhine Fall in Schaffhausen. The German part of the region also includes many popular attractions such as the bath paradise Laguna Badeland in Weil am Rhein, and Vogelpark Steinen in the Black Forest. Vogelpark Steinen is known as one of the finest bird parks in Germany. The park is home to about 1000 birds, and includes bird species such as eagles, falcons, and owls. Different animal species, including barbary macaques, capuchin monkeys, marmosets, and kangaroos, also live in the park. The French part of Dreiland offers excellent opportunities for wine-tasting along the Alsace Wine Road between Colmar and Strasbourg. The road goes through vinyards, forests, and medieval towns with castles and Romanesque churches. Other popular attractions in the French part of the region are the go-kart arena in Bartenheim, the Unterlinden Museum in Colmar, and the Automobile Museum in Mulhouse. The Unterlinden Museum houses the famous Isenheim Altarpiece, and is one of the most visited museums in France.
